Psoriasis Condition

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a skin “disease” that affects various parts of the body. Sufferers will experience skin redness, extreme inflammation of the skin, as well as a “thick, flaky, cracking, chunky, even bleeding” appearance. Psoriasis affects millions of people and there is no “medically approved” known cure for it. As spontaneously as psoriasis can come, it can disappear the same way. However, I don’t think anyone would want to rely on “luck”, and the “spontaneous disappearance” as doctors may say is not spontaneous at all.

The reason I quoted “disease” is because psoriasis is really not a disease. It’s a simple lifestyle condition that resulted from poor gastrointestinal function and the following developments of food allergies.

What Causes Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is caused by what is also known as the leaky gut syndrome. To summarize, it’s an allergic reaction that causes your gastrointestinal system to swell up or inflame which in turn creates many holes between the cells lining it. Once the undigested food travels down your gastrointestinal system some of it ends up “leaking” into your bloodstream through those holes created by the inflammation or swelling. There cannot be an allergic reaction without that unhealthy tissue within your gastrointestinal system that will allow undigested foods to leak through it.

Now once that gets into your bloodstream your body doesn’t recognize those “undigested” molecules presented so the immune system jumps right in and creates an antibody for that undigested food. One of the things the immune system releases is the organic compound called histamine.

Histamine is most widely known for its causes of sinus problems but that’s not the only thing that histamine causes. Among some of the things that histamine contributes to is hives, rashes, itchy skin, as well as psoriasis. Histamine also contributes to eczema and various other inflammations and pain.

So to summarize, psoriasis is caused by inflammation of the GIT (gastrointestinal tract) that allows undigested food to leak into your bloodstream causing your immune system to release histamine, which directly causes skin inflammation problems among which psoriasis is present.

Although that’s the ROOT of the problem, there are many things that contribute to the degree of severity of the problem. Some of the things that maximize psoriasis include:

  • Improper diet, or diets containing high dairy, sugars, or gluten
  • Lack of vitamins (such as the B Vitamins, Vitamin C, and D)
  • Certain fragrances and soaps
  • Environmental changes such as quick shifts in temperatures
  • Certain dirt and bacteria
  • Stress
  • Foods containing a high amount of preservatives and additives (unnatural chemicals)

How Do I Treat Psoriasis?

Paying a visit to a dermatologist is the first thing anyone should do. You will be presented with various treatments from skin creams to UV light exposure. Treatments will temporarily decrease the symptoms of psoriasis but overall will not fully get rid of it. Most doctors will say that a diet plays a miniscule role in terms of psoriasis, however I, along with thousands of nutritionists worldwide, think otherwise. Studies have shown diet to be the leading cause of psoriasis and with a simple thing like a diet change could help manage or entirely get rid of psoriasis. Nutritionists suggest eliminating dairy and gluten products from your diet could potentially help treat psoriasis as well as eczema. Dairy and gluten abundant foods add toxicity and cause inflammatory reaction in your skin. Reducing sugars from your diet is also recommended.

Paying a visit to an allergist is the second thing you should do. Get tested for various allergies because allergies are the root of your problem.

How do I Cure Psoriasis?

Although the “well-established fact” is that psoriasis is a life-long disease, those that follow traditional medical procedures of “occasional treatments” will probably suffer from psoriasis for the rest of their life. However, if you truly want to get rid of psoriasis you will need to do a dramatic lifestyle change. Just what exactly you need to change can be found here.
